We are Florida's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Tampa raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Tampa pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:
- Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
- Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
- If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
- Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
- When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation
Tampa Raccoon Control Tip: What Will Help Me to Capture a Raccoon?
If you have a raccoon around your property, you probably already know that these animals can be quite a nuisance. Many people report coming out of the morning time to find their garbage strewn across their driveway or lawn, the result of a raccoon getting into their garbage can during the night. Many who have a garden have seen their vegetables and fruits devoured by these critters. They can become a real problem.
The problem is much more than nuisance, however. Raccoons are the carriers of a number of diseases, any one of which poses a serious threat to you, your family, and your pets. Thus, capturing and removing them can be a smart thing to do.
How do You Capture a Raccoon?
You may have concluded that you don't want to harm the animal. You simply wanted somewhere else, so you have decided that capturing it and relocating it is your plan. The problem is you have no idea what you need to be able to do this. What you need is some advice on what will help you to capture a raccoon.
Trap
Your starting place is to get a good trap. There are several good commercial brands out there that are ideal for capturing a crater like this. They are well constructed and durable, not allowing the raccoon to get out once it has been captured.
Make sure that you set the trap in a location where the raccoon is likely to find it. Posted near your garbage can on garden, or at least along the pathway where you know the raccoon is likely traveling to get to its nightly meal.Bait
You will need something to entice the raccoon into the trap. Understand that the scavengers will eat just about anything. You may find that surprising, but consider they are eating out of your garbage can. That is food that is often days old, but they find it to be a delicacy.
Whatever choice you select, keep in mind that the stronger the odor the more likely it is to attract a raccoon. You don't want rotting meat infested with maggots, but there is nothing wrong with using meat or cheese. The odors are strong and it will lure the raccoon to the trap.
The Snare
If you are finding that your raccoon is not falling for the trap, you may want to use a snare. This would require you to be awake when the raccoon comes around, but these are fairly effective contraptions.
By wrapping the noose around the raccoon's neck, you can subdue the thing. Be careful though. The raccoon is likely to thrash around. So, brace yourself. Also, ensure that you are protecting yourself. Wear clothes that protect all of your exposed skin. Where a respiratory mask and goggles. Once you have the animal trapped in a snare, you can place it inside a cage to transport.
Either one of these methods should help you to capture the raccoon. Just be careful. Raccoons can be dangerous. So, make sure you protect yourself before doing anything to capture the animal.
